In the 1950’s, the mentally retarded were among the most scorned, isolated and neglected groups in American Society. Mental retardation was viewed as a hopeless, shameful disease, and those afflicted with it were shunted from sight as soon as possible. My concern about “socialization” of the Health Care System, which would restrict the citizens of choosing their Health Care. It’s a commendable and a responsible thought of a Government to oversee the Health Care of their subjects, but not to deprive them of their choices.
